Information regarding the Old Reservoir Site.
Stubshaw Cross, Ashton in Makerfield.
Land registry title : GM224924.
The land stated above, covers an area of
roughly 4 acres and had been the site of
a reservoir from about 1882 until about
the mid 1900s. It became derelict, and in
1980s the site was filled in and planted
over with trees.

The area has been largely neglected and
has been left to grow unchecked for
about 25 years.

It is surrounded by private land. On the east by privately owned pens, on
the south and west by land owned by Thomas Barton and on the north by
land owned by the Cowell family. It is accessible by a wooded corridor leading
from the back of the houses on Bolton Rd. This has been boarded up by a
member of the public (unknown).

Above is a view taken from inside the wood and is typical of the wood
throughout. There are places that once cleared would make excellent
grassy areas for benches and rest areas.
