It is only natural that a variety wildlife would use the wood.
Species living in the wood include:
various birds, hedgehogs, rabbits,
foxes and frogs.

On a number of occasions bats have been
seen to use the wood as a feeding area.

Although there is no evidence of them
using it as a roost it is still an important
habitat for them.

A nest high up in a spruce.
The area is a haven for common birds such as magpies, wood pigeons,
crows etc. The idea of a bird watching hide put forward by the
Stubshaw Cross Residents Group would reveal the true diversity
of bird life in this wooded area.
The nest high up in the trees is most likely that of a crow. However
if it was last years nest then it could be inhabited by a Kestrel,
Sparrow Hawk, Long Eared owl or Tawny owl.
All these birds use other previously used large nests.
Evidence of a bird of prey feeding lies scattered throughout the wood.
